How To Pack Fragile Items Before Moving?
Everybody has that special set of china, a sentimental family heirloom or a fragile glass figurine that we want to ensure remains intact during the moving process.
 One of the protruding fears of moving is to deal with broken items and glassware and cleaning up after it. But it’s not easy to replace such items because most of the times, these fragile items have a sentimental value to them which makes it even more harsh in the event they are broken or damaged.
- Things you will need
The major ingredients for safely packing your fragile items are;
- Packing paper
- Lots of bubble wrap
- Brown paper tape
Use paper and tape to double wrap each item
The first step in securely packing fragile items is to properly wrap and pack them. While packing delicate items, you’ll have to look at every angle and be extra careful as you don’t want to break them before the moving even starts. For this, it’s recommended to pack delicate items on the floor so the chances of them to accidentally bump and go knocking down the floor become zero.
Moreover, the trick to securely packing fragile items is to wrap each item firstly in two layers of bubble wrap, then in two layers of packing paper. When all this is done, you can seal the layers with tape. Now your item is going to sit nice and tight during the process of moving and won’t break while being loaded and unloaded in transit.
Use paper to cushion the bottom of the box
To add more security to your packing, cushion the bottom of the box heavily with packing paper so that the contact between the packed item and the external bumps is absorbed by the layer of paper.
The number of layers of paper to be used is solely upon you. Depending on the size of the box and the shape of the item, you can layer the floor of the box with at least 5 stacking. If you feel it’s not adequate, you can always go for more.

Labeling the boxes
It is extremely important to label all the boxes containing fragile items so that your movers will know which boxes are to be carefully handled. Apart from labeling the box, it’s a good idea to also include a list of the items that the box houses so that you’ll know what you’re unpacking and can arrange the fragile items as quickly as possible to a safe place in their new home.
Leaving a buffer space on the box’s top
While packing, many people usually over-pack things in their boxes. You should avoid that. For fragile items, leaving a few inches of space at the top to act as a buffer space can secure the item’s well-being even further. One scenario is that when a heavy box is placed on top of a fragile box, although most of the times it is unintentional, the weight of the heavy box could crack or seriously damage the fragile item. Leaving an inch of space can easily prevent this from happening.
